Netflix Is Rolling Out Real-Time Voting for Live Events
When Netflix isn’t spending its time trying to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, it appears the company is adding new features to its subscription service. Netflix is always adding new shows and movies, which is what most users are looking for on the platform, but that’s not all you can expect from your account. In fact, Netflix is now rolling out an interactive experience for its live competition shows, allowing subscribers to vote in real time.
Live voting is coming Star search
Netflix announced the change in a press release on Tuesday and also revealed the first show to officially stream with real-time voting: Star search. Netflix is bringing it back American idol precursor tonight at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT), and will allow viewers to choose their favorite candidate alongside “millions of others.”
Netflix says it tested this feature for the first time with the series Dinner Time Live with David Changand “learned first-hand how members appreciated the transparent and integrated ways in which they could participate in the series.” I don’t think you need a focus group to know that people like to share their opinions on things, but hey, I’m not a Netflix executive.
The company clarified in its release that only live events will work with real-time voting. If you watch a show after it airs, you won’t be able to vote, which obviously makes sense. The show doesn’t really need to know who you would choose as the winner once the winner has already been chosen – although Netflix could always use the extra user data, I’m sure.
Star search is currently the only show to support this feature, but Netflix says more real-time voting shows are on the way.

How to vote at Netflix live events

Netflix says that when you watch a live event, you’ll be able to vote when you watch it on TV or a streaming device. You won’t You will not be able to vote if you are watching in a web browser, or if you rewind, pause, or log in late.
When joining a live show, make sure you do so on a smart TV, supported streaming device (such as Apple TV, Fire TV, or Roku), or the Netflix mobile app. If you want to watch in a web browser, you can still vote on your phone at the same time.
Netflix will ask you when it’s time to vote. You will see a 1 to 5 star rating appear on the screen. Click on the star level you want for each artist. Note that each profile only has one chance to vote per performance, so you cannot cast another vote after casting one: you will simply have to wait for the next performance.
