Trump slams Ilhan Omar’s rising wealth amid GOP investigation into her net worth

President Donald Trump criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., a member of the far-left “Squad” in the House, over her multimillion-dollar net worth during a White House news conference Tuesday afternoon.
Trump called the Somali lawmaker from Minnesota “crooked” Tuesday, part of an investigation by congressional Republicans into the House Oversight Committee examining how Omar’s wealth exploded after he became a lawmaker. In just one year, Omar’s net worth reportedly jumped $30 million, according to financial disclosures first released last week.
“I was told Ilhan Omar was worth $30 million,” Trump then quipped. “She’s never had a job. She’s a crooked congressman. So there you are – that’s another one.”

“No one talks about the fact that Minnesota is missing at least $19 billion, mostly donated, but, by the Somalis, they took it. The Somalis. Can you imagine? And they don’t do it, a lot of people with very low IQs, they don’t do it. Other people take care of it, and they get them money and they buy Mercedes-Benzes. They don’t have money. They never had money. They never had a life. They never had a government. They never had a country because there is hardly any country. Somalia is not even a country, it is considered the worst in the world, they are getting rich and they have no jobs,” Trump complained from the podium of the White House briefing room.

According to Republican Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, the concern is linked to both Omar and her politically connected husband, Tim Mynett.
Omar disclosed 2024 valuations for Rose Lake Capital LLC, a company co-founded by her husband, valued at between $5 million and $25 million. in 2024. Just a year ago, in 2023she indicated that the value of the same company was between $1 and $1,000.

Meanwhile, a winery registered in Santa Rosa, California, which first appeared in Omar’s disclosure reports in 2020, reported a value of between $1 million and $5 million in 2024. The company, ESTCRU LLCwas valued at between $15,000 and $50,000 the previous year.
Trump took to the White House briefing room Tuesday to tout his accomplishments about a year after he was sworn in for his second term, including the arrest of thousands of criminals in Minnesota as part of his administration’s federal immigration enforcement efforts in the state. Trump also criticized Minnesota and its leaders for widespread fraud that the Trump administration investigated involving the state’s large Somali population.

“Ilhan Omar comes from Somalia, a backward country,” Trump added from the podium Tuesday. “But she’ll come here and then she’ll want to tell us how to run our country. ‘The Constitution says I have a title to this.’ I can’t stand her.”

In addition to House Republicans, Trump administration officials have also reportedly indicated that they are aware of the allegations against Omar and will look into them.
