A top spokesman for former President Bill Clinton sharply accused House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., of misrepresenting negotiations in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, insisting that the Clintons never rejected sworn testimony or transcripts as the committee prepares to vote for contempt.
Angel Ureña, the former president’s deputy chief of staff, said Comer was using a dispute over the format of testimony as a pretext to initiate contempt proceedings.
Ureña’s remarks come after Comer accused the Clintons of defying bipartisan subpoenas and demanding limits on testimony that would shut out other lawmakers and prevent the creation of an official transcript.
“We have never said no to a transcript. Interviews are recorded and under oath,” he wrote on

Comer said the Clintons’ lawyers made what he described as an untenable offer as the committee moved toward contempt proceedings.
“Faced with congressional contempt, the Clintons’ lawyers made an untenable offer: that I travel to New York solely for a conversation with President Clinton,” Comer wrote on X. “No official transcript would be recorded and other members of Congress would not be able to participate. I rejected the Clintons’ ridiculous offer.”
Comer also accused the Clintons of seeking preferential treatment and failing to comply with legal subpoenas.

“The Clintons’ latest claims make clear that they believe their last name entitles them to special treatment,” he wrote. “Bipartisan House Oversight Committee subpoenas require Clintons to appear for sworn and transcribed depositions.”
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is examining what the Clintons may have known about Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, including Hillary’s role in overseeing U.S. efforts to combat international sex trafficking while she was secretary of state.
Comer said the lack of an official record would harm public accountability as the investigation moves forward.

“The lack of an official transcript is an indefensible and insulting demand for the American people who demand answers about Epstein’s crimes,” Comer wrote.
The House GOP Oversight Committee responded to Ureña’s response on X, while also sharing a series of communications between several parties whose names were redacted.
“One of Clinton’s pawns told the fake New York Times that he never ruled out a transcript,” the message read. “The receipts tell a different story: They required that there be only one employee “to take notes” for each party during an “interview.” Subpoenas and depositions are not suggestions. »
Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, who serves on the House Oversight Committee, told Fox News that the committee went out of its way to accommodate the Clintons and said their refusal to comply with subpoenas left the committee with no choice but to pursue contempt.

“We’ve seen several photos of Bill Clinton with Epstein victims on Epstein’s plane engaged in all sorts of things that seem pretty unsavory, and I think the American people want answers, and they want to know what a former American president was doing with this disgusting pedophile,” Gill said.
