Democrat Leadership Warns Lawmakers To Stay Away From Anti-ICE Protests

Party leaders warned House Democrats against traveling to Minnesota to support anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protesters, Axios reported Thursday.
A top aide to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries reportedly wrote in an email to Democratic congressional offices Monday that visiting the state “puts a burden on local resources” and is not supportive of Minneapolis residents.
“Visiting the state at this time, while well-intentioned, places a burden on local resources and is not supportive of our colleagues, city and state government, and, most importantly, the people of Minneapolis,” the email said, according to Axios.

The staffer wrote that “it has become clear that the best thing members can do right now is support their MN colleagues by participating in days of action in their home districts this week,” the outlet reported. (RELATED: Mystery Liquid Sprayed on Ilhan Omar Identified)
A House Democrat anonymously confirmed to Axios that the message was also conveyed informally, saying that Minnesota public officials “warned members about going there because it could strain and overwhelm local law enforcement.”
The email comes days after a man doused Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar with apple cider vinegar during a town hall meeting and during ongoing anti-ICE protests in the state following the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal law enforcement agents.
Jeffries’ office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
