2026 Daytona 500 pole position: Kyle Busch, Chase Briscoe capture top two spots

The Daytona 500 is almost here. Thursday evening, the drivers competed in the Duels to determine the starting order of the Great American race.

Single-seater qualifying took place on Wednesday evening. During single-car qualifying, each driver completed a timed lap of the 2.5-mile superspeedway. The top 10 drivers qualified for the second round to compete for pole position, completing another timed lap. The two fastest drivers in this round will be on the front row of the Daytona 500.

Kyle Busch finished first and won his first pole at the Daytona 500. Chase Briscoe, last year’s pole sitter, finished with the second-fastest time, putting him just behind Busch in the lineup.

Single-car qualifying also established the lineup for each Duel qualifying race. Drivers who placed in odd positions (third, fifth, etc.) raced in Duel 1. Drivers who placed in even positions (fourth, sixth, etc.) raced in Duel 2.

The Duels are 60-lap, 150-mile qualifying races that place third through 40th in Sunday’s race. The finish order of Duel 1 determines the inside rows and the finish order of Duel 2 determines the outside row of the Daytona 500.

Points are awarded to the top 10 in each Duel and will count towards the regular season. First place in each Duel race will get 10 points, second place will get nine points, etc.
