This de-Googled Android tablet is now available in the United States

If you want an Android tablet without Google apps and services, there is now another option to check out. The Murena Volla tablet is now available in the US and Canada, with a de-Googled /e/OS software experience right out of the box.
The Volla tablet was first announced on Kickstarter in early 2024, featuring a 12.6-inch 2650 x 1600 display, MediaTek Gaming G99 chipset, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, cellular network connectivity, and support for pen and keyboard accessories. It was designed to run Volla OS, the company’s de-Googled Android software, but Ubuntu Touch is also available as another option. The tablet began shipping to backers in early 2025 and is available for purchase in the EU, EFTA, and the UK through the company’s online store.
There is now another version of the tablet, and best of all, this one can be purchased in the United States. The Murena Volla tablet is a slightly modified model, with the same general design, a 12.6-inch screen, 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. The main difference is that it runs /e/OS, a modified version of Android without Google apps or services. It offers built-in replacements for apps from Google, and the App Lounge acts as an installer for apps from F-Droid and the Google Play Store.
Murena already sells the main US version of the Fairphone 6, which also runs /e/OS out of the box, instead of Fairphone’s usual system software. However, this is the company’s first venture into tablets.
Other hardware includes a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front camera, Wi-Fi 6, a USB Type-C port, and a 10,000 mAh battery. Cellular connectivity is still supported, but it is not enabled for units sold outside of Europe. There’s still no built-in headphone jack.
Unfortunately, the tablet isn’t cheap, even with its mid-range hardware. Pricing starts at $789 in the US, not including shipping or optional accessories like the keyboard case. That’s more than twice the cost of an 11-inch iPad or Google Pixel tablet.
If you want a de-Google Android tablet, your best option is probably a Google Pixel tablet and installing LineageOS without a Google Apps package (Gapps). The /e/OS project also offers versions for the Pixel tablet. Yet now there is an additional tablet that comes with a more private operating system out of the box.
You can buy Murena Volla tablet from Murena’s online store in the United States and Canada.
