Meta might launch a smartwatch this year

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, could launch a competing Apple Watch this year.
According to a report by The Information, the smartwatch is codenamed “Malibu 2” and will feature health tracking tools, similar to those found on other popular smartwatches, including the Apple Watch. A Meta AI assistant will be integrated into the watch software.
Meta patented LLM that would publish for users after they pass away
The number two in the codename could refer to an earlier smartwatch project that was ultimately abandoned. This watch reportedly comes with a built-in camera, but it’s unclear if the new watch will have this feature.
Crushable speed of light
Details around the watch are rare. However, this isn’t too far-fetched an idea, given that Meta already offers a line of VR headsets and related accessories, as well as the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta smart glasses. The Meta smartwatch could, for example, be used for gesture control of the above gadgets.
Meta has been cutting costs on its VR efforts, having recently laid off more than 1,000 employees who were working on the company’s vision of the Metaverse. Meta CEO Andrew Bosworth said at the time that the company would refocus its Metaverse efforts on wearables, which could explain its renewed interest in smartwatches.
