‘Weak! Weak! Weak!’ CNN Data Guru Stunned by Trump’s Feeble Pre-SOTU Polling — Lower than ‘Any Other President This Century’
CNN Data Analyst Harry Enten warned the president Donald Trump that heading into Tuesday’s State of the Union address, his poll numbers have “never been lower” and highlighted past numbers showing Trump polling lower than any other president this century at the same stage.
A new CNN poll puts the president’s overall approval rating at 36 percent, with a net approval rating of -27 points, a figure Enten compares to the president’s past numbers and his predecessors, prompting him to borrow a phrase from the former British prime minister. Tony Blair to describe the vote: “‘Weak! Weak! Weak!’
“Look at those -27 points, my God,” the data guru exclaimed as he pointed to the numbers on the big board in the studio. “The snow is knee deep here in New York, and Trump appears to be well under it at this point.
He continued: “Compare that to where he was in 2020, 2019 and 2018, in the first term before the State of the Unions -10. [points]much lower now, -15 [points] much lower now, -15 [points] much lower now. Ultimately, according to our CNN poll, Donald Trump has never been weaker than he is now before giving a State of the Union address, and he is considerably weaker.”
The numbers are also striking when compared to other two-term presidents of the 21st century. At comparable times before a State of the Union, former President Barack Obama stands at -15 points and the former President George W. Bush at -11.
“So Trump is not only weaker than he has ever been in a State of the Union address. He is weaker than any other president in this century. Addressing a State of the Union address at this point in his second term,” Enten remarked.
Requested by host Kate Bouldan what drove the president’s numbers down, Enten unequivocally pointed to a drop in polling among independents: “Look at that drop: we’ve been talking about it over the last few months, at this point a year ago Donald Trump was -13 points, look at this, -47 points among independents, the lowest Donald Trump has ever been in his two terms as president with independents, that’s what’s driving these numbers up.”
“When you’re 47 points underwater with the independents, that’s the name of the game, you can’t be out of the water overall,” he warned.
