Tennessee baseball defeats Bellarmine to end eight-game homestand

No. 19 Tennessee (6-2) concluded an eight-game homestand on Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Vols defeated Bellarmine (2-6), 8-3. Rankings reflect the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Left-handed pitcher Blaine Brown (0-0) started for the Vols. He pitched one inning and totaled two strikeouts and 19 pitches, including 12 strikes, against five batters. Brown allowed one walk and the Knights hit one flyout against him.

Tennessee’s offense totaled 10 hits, including home runs from Manny Marin and Brown in the seventh inning.

Brown went 1-for-4 with three RBIs, one run and one strikeout. Jay Abernathy Jr. totaled three hits against Bellarmine, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run and one strikeout.

The Vols were 2-for-10 with two outs, 3-for-19 with runners on base and 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Cam Appenzeller (2-0) earned a win for Tennessee. He pitched one inning in relief and totaled 16 pitches (10 strikes) against four batters.

Tennessee will next play in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, home of the Texas Rangers in MLB.

The Vols will face UCLA on Friday (4 p.m. EST), Arizona State on Saturday (noon EST) and Virginia Tech on March 1 (11:30 a.m. EST).
