You’ve only got 4 days to watch Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece on Netflix

Every month, a new selection of movies leaves Netflix for other streaming services. Not all films coming out of Netflix are equal, especially those from a visionary like Quentin Tarantino. On March 1st, pulp Fiction will leave Netflix, meaning February 28 will be the last day to watch Tarantino’s masterpiece.
Few directors can sell a film based on their name alone. Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese immediately come to mind as prime examples. Tarantino deserves a spot on this list. When a movie’s opening credits include “Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino,” you’re about to witness a cinematic experience like no other. Reservoir dogs could have been Tarantino’s first film, but pulp Fiction took his career to new heights.
Tarantino implemented a non-linear narrative
Tarantino doesn’t play by the rules. He rewrote the history of World War II by killing Adolf Hitler in a movie theater in Inglourious Basterds. In Once upon a time… in HollywoodTarantino rewrote history again by allowing Sharon Tate, brutally murdered by the Manson family in 1969, to survive. This outlaw mentality explains why he is one of the most popular and successful filmmakers of his era.
Tarantino, who co-wrote pulp Fiction with Roger Avary, did not create nonlinear narrative, a storytelling technique in which events are described in chronological order. However, he undoubtedly helped to modernize and popularize the method. pulp Fiction uses a non-linear narrative to depict multiple intertwined stories in Los Angeles.
There are seven acts in pulp Fictionwith three main stories: hitman Vincent Vega (John Travolta) must entertain Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman), the wife of gangster Marcellus Wallace (Ving Rhames); boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) must escape Marcellus’ wrath after refusing to lose a boxing match, but he won’t leave until he gets his gold watch back; and hitmen Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) and Vincent Vega must clean their blood-soaked car after a hit gone wrong. pulp Fiction also includes a prologue and an epilogue, where criminals Pumpkin (Tim Roth) and Honey Bunny (Amanda Plummer) attempt to rob a restaurant.
Look pulp Fiction for the first time is as confusing as it is astonishing. How can a character die in one chapter and then reappear in the next? What’s in the briefcase? What is the real order of the film? These questions don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. What matters is Tarantino’s originality: his imagination is one of a kind.
This goes back to Tarantino not following the rules of conventional screenwriting. In Tarantino’s films, it is the characters, not the plot elements, that drive the story. Character development and details are emphasized before plot progression. This is a guy who has written several television scripts for by OUATIH Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his time in the fictional series Bonus Act.
Several actors give career-defining performances in Pulp Fiction
Three actors were nominated for Oscars
Tarantino’s scripts aren’t for everyone. There is a certain cadence required by a performer when delivering the lines. The witty dialogue is quick with little room for improvisation. A character’s dialogue is the driving force of the story; thus, the way the words are presented is of utmost importance.
Jackson is on Tarantino’s Mount Rushmore of artists, and Jules Winnfield might be the director’s most iconic character. Jules is a smart hitman with an attitude. Every line Jules delivers feels like a sermon of the utmost importance, especially when reciting Ezekiel 25:17. Jackson is an actor who walks the fine line between drama and comedy: one minute he’s goading Brett into saying the word “what,” and the next he’s hilariously complimenting the Big Kahuna Burger. Jackson’s loss to Martin Landau for Best Supporting Actor was a glaring misfire at the Oscars.
By the early ’90s, Travolta was in career decline. After becoming the world’s biggest star in the late ’70s, Travolta fell out of favor in Hollywood in the mid-’80s. Tarantino fought hard to cast Travolta, and the gamble was rewarded with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. From the legendary dance with Mia to the philosophical conversations with Jules, Travolta’s charm is evident. Tarantino made Travolta relevant again, as the actor became a top star again.
Speaking of dancing, Thurman received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Mia Wallace. Thurman brings an enigmatic side to Mia. She is cool and nonchalant; you don’t necessarily know what she wants, but you desperately want to know. Thurman would ultimately become Tarantino’s muse in Kill Billbut pulp Fiction This is where this creative partnership began to blossom.
pulp Fiction famously lost Best Picture to Forrest Gump. Tarantino and Avary won pulp Fiction only Oscar – Best Screenplay – Written directly for the screen.
The Legacy of Pulp Fiction
An innovative film that became a classic
The beauty of Tarantino is his resume of classic films. pulp Fiction doesn’t have to be your favorite Tarantino movie. For me, I prefer Once upon a time… in Hollywood And Reservoir dogs. However, I admit that pulp Fiction is Tarantino’s most important work. It changed the landscape of independent cinema and ushered in a new class of auteur.
