Defending champion Tadese Takele (2:03:23) received a double boost, with withdrawals due to 2025 runner-up Timothy Kiplagat and 2024 Berlin champion Milkesa Mengesha. However, the Ethiopian remains one of the Seven contenders with personal bests under 2:04.
Among them are Kenya’s two-time Tokyo bronze medalist Vincent Kipkemoi, who is yet to win a WMM, and his compatriot Alexander Mutiso, winner of London 2024 (2:04:01).
