As an NBN expert, I can’t believe how affordable Kogan Internet’s NBN 500 plan is — and it’s just scored another price drop

There’s never a dull moment when it comes to the best NBN plans, as monthly prices and introductory discounts fluctuate regularly. Luckily, as TechRadar Australia’s resident broadband expert, every time a price change happens or a new deal appears, I record it immediately.

However, what I didn’t expect to find recently was a further price drop on Kogan Internet’s NBN 500 and NBN 100 plans, now down to just AU$69.90/m for the first 12 months.

When I last updated my guide to the best internet deals in Australia in mid-February, I noticed that Kogan Internet had dropped its 12-month introductory prices to AU$71.90/m, making it the cheapest provider for the 100Mbps and 500Mbps speed tiers.

The telco could have left it there and maintained its position as the cheapest provider, but just to hammer it home, an extra AU$2 was shaved off the price, resulting in a truly exceptional and great value for money deal.

Of course, while I always like to steer readers towards the fastest NBN plans, the fact remains that many Australians are happy with a slower alternative, such as an NBN 50 plan.

If this sounds like you, Kogan Internet has also lowered the introductory price of its 50 Mbps offer. It’s not the most affordable in year one, I have to admit – that title belongs to Dodo – but the ongoing cost of Kogan Internet from year two is around AU$60 less.

However, as you can see, Kogan’s NBN 50 plan only costs AU$1 less per month for the first 12 months. The fact that you can get double or even 10x the speed for just a dollar more makes perfect economic sense.
