Police seek 2 suspects after sleeping man is set on fire near New York’s Penn Station

NEW YORK– Police were searching Tuesday for two suspects believed to be involved in an attack near Penn Station in Manhattan when a 37-year-old man was set on fire while he slept.
New York City police said three men approached the sleeping man around 8:40 p.m. Monday and set his clothes on fire before fleeing toward the Amtrak station.
Emergency services extinguished the flames and transported the man to hospital in stable condition, police said.
Amtrak confirmed its police were working with the New York Police Department to investigate the incident, without providing further details. Various media outlets reported that a third suspect had been arrested.
The attack is the latest in a series of incidents in which people have been set on fire on public transport across the country. In December, a New York City high school student was arrested on federal arson charges after authorities said he started a fire that severely burned a sleeping subway passenger.
A woman sleeping in a stopped New York subway car died in 2024 after a man set her on fire and then fanned the flames with a shirt.
