Apple has just announced new Mac products, including a new MacBook Air M5. As is often the case after such announcements, the previous model begins to benefit from some reductions: The MacBook Air M4 15-inch with 16 GB of unified memory and 256 GB of SSD storage is currently $999a $200 discount we haven’t seen since January, according to price trackers. Even at full price, this M4 offers remarkable value for money, even compared to previous models.
Although this is the entry-level MacBook Air (albeit with a larger screen size), it comes with 16GB of RAM, double what the previous generation base model offered. This is enough to undertake heavy-duty applications now and for many years to come. It features a 15.3-inch “Liquid Retina” display with 2560 x 1664 resolution, P3 wide color gamut, and 500 nits peak brightness. You’ll also get a great backlit keyboard with Touch ID, Wi-Fi 6E support, and excellent speakers and microphones.
The 12MP camera comes with Center Stage, a feature that debuted on iPad And on the MacBook Pro M4. It allows the camera to track your face as you move around the frame during video calls. There are two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, which means you can expand up to two external 6K monitors.
What do you think of it so far?
For a “basic” laptop, the 15-inch MacBook Air M4 is arguably better than it should be, and is a much better value for money than the Proaccording to Jake Peterson, senior technical editor at Lifehacker. If you factor in the discount, this really is the best MacBook for most people. If you prefer other storage, RAM, or size models, they will likely be on sale soon as well. But if this 15-incher is the one you’re considering, now is a good time to get it.
