Ease the struggle of young researchers | Science

Young scientists face increasingly uncertain conditions (1), leading many to question whether a career in science is worth it (2). Between 2000 and 2023, the global research workforce grew rapidly, but funding growth lagged (3), leading to declining success rates and prolonged instability in early scientific careers. Additionally, increased funding often disproportionately benefits senior researchers, leaving younger colleagues with limited independence (4). Only structural reforms can improve the career prospects of young scientists.
