This massive 49-inch ultrawide OLED monitor is just $900

I like them big. I like them big. I’m talking about PC gaming monitors, why, what did you think I meant? If your inclinations also extend to ultrawide, you’ll want to check out this MSI offering. You can get a 49-inch ultrawide OLED, normally $1,200, for just $899.99 at Amazon. It’s far from cheap, but it’s a hell of a deal.
The MPG 491CQPX is a complete model in more than one way. With a 240Hz refresh, it’s blazing fast, especially for a large panel with a resolution of 5,120×1,440 (essentially two 27-inch monitors crammed into a big curved screen). It also has a USB-C video input with up to 98 watts of power delivery, so even a thirsty gaming laptop can use it as a display with just one cable. You get a few USB-A ports for additional gadgets, as well as DisplayPort and dual HDMI 2.1 for expanded compatibility.
Other features include a built-in VM switch to manage multiple devices, console mode if you want to plug in a PlayStation or Switch, and a hardware reticle that changes color to maintain contrast. It also has a VESA mount, but you may need a reinforced monitor arm if you want to mount it. The monitor comes with plenty of extra technology to protect its OLED panel from burn-in. And if that’s not enough, MSI offers a three-year break-in warranty.
This is a fantastic price if you’re looking for a large flagship monitor that can handle media and gaming with equal aplomb. I’m not sure how long the discount will last – Amazon is advertising it as a regular discount. But if this one doesn’t do it for you, be sure to check out PCWorld’s roundup of the best monitors.
