The incident escalated when the fan picked up a chair. The Jacksonville State basketball staff was trying to calm the situation. UTEP actors intervened, trying to get security down onto the field.

UTEP athletic director Jim Senter said the school will “review the video” when it gets it back. Jacksonville State said it would “defer” comments to Conference USA.
It is unclear what exactly triggered the incident. ESPN broadcasters said that during the game, some fans should have been kicked out of the gym well before the fight broke out.
