IndyCar changes qualifying format for Arlington race in 2026

The NTT IndyCar Series will have a new qualifying format for the race in Arlington, Texas this weekend. The traditional “elimination” style qualifying for the first two segments will remain in place; However, the “Firestone Fast Six” will feature drivers racing a single car and a single lap, the sport announced.
This is a minor change, but one that should provide drivers, teams and sponsors with more recognition in the final round of qualifying. Instead of everyone being on the track at the same time, each driver will have the full attention of qualifying, like the Indianapolis 500. This is a great move to highlight the accomplishment of being part of the Fast Six.

It is more than likely that this format will be hugely successful and could be implemented on other road and street courses in the future. IndyCar is ready for Arlington, and the “Firestone Fast Six” will be one of the highlights of the weekend.
