Trump news at a glance: president shrugs off highest gas prices in years | Trump administration

Donald Trump on Thursday ignored the economic consequences of the war in Iran on gas prices in the United States, writing on social media that “when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money.”
The president’s comment comes as the American Automobile Association reports that the average price of a gallon of gasoline has reached $3.60, a week after the start of the U.S.-Israeli military operation against Iran, which caused the largest price hike since the early days of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Costs at the pump have risen alongside the price of crude, which soared above $100 a barrel on Thursday as Iran launched attacks on oil installations across the Middle East, despite the release of global oil reserves intended to stabilize markets.
