‘We’d be honored to have a hand in that’: Ready or Not 2 directors haven’t ruled out saving the canceled Hulu Buffy reboot
If you have a heart and also remember what VHS is, you will probably have been devastated by the announcement of the upcoming reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was canceled by Hulu.
Title Buffy: New Sunnydalethe series was to follow a new teenager mentored by Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) in a partially reconstructed Sunnydale.
As Gellar said in an Instagram video: “I’m really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me. Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with Buffy: New Sunnydale.

“I want to thank Chloé Zhao because I never thought I would find myself in Buffy’s stylish yet affordable boots, and thanks to Chloé, I was reminded how much I love her and how much she means not only to me, but to all of you. And that doesn’t change any of that.”
Frankly, I don’t have that. Luckily for us, the announcement coincides with Gellar’s new horror film, Ready or Not 2: Here I ambeing released.
To me, directing duo Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) are an obvious choice to save the show we all desperately want and need…and the good news is that they would be “absolutely honored.”

“Yes, we would be honored to be a part of that,” Gillett responds graciously when I ask the two men if they could potentially save the world. Buffy restart. It’s not like they have much on the roster – just a small gap between Scream 7 And Ready or not 2 both released this month ahead of production for The Mummy 4 I hope it will start in August.
But what does it matter if we have to wait a little? They both make it clear to me that working with Gellar, she is one of the greatest “final girls” (the girl who makes it all the way to the end) in the horror genre of all time…and they worked with an absolutely incredible roster.
“We were very lucky with the actors we worked with: Melissa Barrera, John Ortega, Catherine Newton, Sarah Michelle Gellar,” adds Bettinelli-Olpin. “It’s shocking to us that Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox are here…that’s a lot of really great actors doing really great things.
“I think, and they all bring something different. I don’t think we ever decided to say, ‘All right, we’re making a movie with a cool girl in the end.’ I think it’s more like, “All right, we’ve got this great storyline with this great character.”
“It’s that mix of being fucking cool, but also seeing yourself in it,” he concludes. And who ticks all these boxes if not Buffy Summers?
Consider this piece a manifestation of a resurrection worthy of any murder – if anyone can pull it off, it’s these guys.
