Netflix sources, speaking to left-wing entertainment outlets, now completely deny comedian Mark Normand’s claim that one of his executives told him that Muslims were “dangerous people.”

The dispute comes after Normand said Netflix executives asked him to remove jokes about Muslims from his comedy special because they were afraid of a backlash against the company. The Hollywood Reporter wrote.

Appearing on the Tuesdays with stories! Normand started talking about his Netflix comedy special, Mark Normand: None are too happy.

“We have to do a conference call,” Normand explained. “There’s 18 Jews there with a loudspeaker and my Jews. And they’re like, ‘Yeah, bad news. We rewatched the special, we’d like you to take out the Muslim joke.” I say, “Oh, why?” And [they] “Well, the last time a comedian made a joke about Muslims, we got bomb threats. “We got death threats. They said they were going to kill us. They destroyed the entire studio, smashed the place to pieces. So we would like not to use the Muslim joke. So I said to myself: I have to fight for the joke here.

He went on to say that executives then changed tack slightly, saying they only wanted to remove the joke from social media posts flogging the special, not from the show itself.

“They said, ‘We need to get this off social media…social media is where all the shit starts,’” Normand told the executives.

“I was like, ‘Okay, okay, I don’t like it, but okay. I’ll take it down on one condition: I want you to admit on this call that these are dangerous people. You have to admit it, or I’ll post again.’ I mean, I’m half-joking,” he exclaimed, “and they’re like, ‘Well, we’re not going to do that.’ And I say to myself, ‘Why not?’ “Well, that’s offensive.” And I say, “I just need you to say it out loud.” I need recognition”… As we all point out, we are all virtuous, but you don’t actually act that way, do you? And I think this is a perfect example of that. “Hey, we’re scared.” Why are you nervous? This is what I was getting at. So they admitted it.

But following Norman’s story on the podcast, Netflix denies ever admitting such a thing.

The streamer said The Hollywood Reporter that “we advised him that we are a global company and that he needed to be careful about the clips and jokes he used to promote the special on his own social media.” They added that they had never acknowledged that Muslims were dangerous, adding that this statement was “not true, not correct, completely false.”

In fact, they say Normand wasn’t even on the call and that Netflix reps were talking to Normand’s people when the topic came up.

In the special, Normand jokes that his neighbor’s daughter goes through all kinds of phases. “At first she went through a promiscuous phase. Now she’s going through a Muslim phase,” he says during the show. “I was like, ‘Hey, she slept with a Muslim, that’s not bad. Now she’s getting down on her knees five times a day for a different reason… He’s like, ‘Yeah, I guess, but do you think she’ll stop smoking weed?’ I thought, “Well, she’s a Muslim woman. She might get high again.’

After delivering the joke, he then berates the live audience by saying, “Uh-oh, a Muslim joke! You laughed at Jewish shit, just trying to keep the same tone.”
