Senator Rick Scott posted a photo of himself, his wife and granddaughter at Disney World after vowing to boycott Disney for its “woke” policies, multiple media outlets report.
“Hey TMZ. Yes, I’m at Disney with my grandkids. Should we be in Washington DC? Yes! But I can’t make that decision,” the Florida Republican posted on X on Saturday, referring to the Congressional recess over Easter.
Entertainment news site TMZ responded, saying its message sounded like “That’s kind of like saying, that’s not my job, man” and “the fact that the Senate finally came up with a bill that they could agree on when time was up and they abandoned DC before the House even voted…well, if he thinks that gets the job done, we disagree.”
“Anyway, have a good time there, Rick. [Sen.] Lindsay [Graham] highly recommend Fantasyland. But for members of Congress, I’ve been there, done that,” TMZ posted on its blog.
Mr. Scott, a former governor of Florida, made several media appearances in 2022 and wrote an article in the Washington Examiner stating that he had canceled his Disney+ streaming subscription and would not return to the Orlando theme park.
His remarks expressed outrage over Walt Disney Co.’s opposition to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law (dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” law), which limited discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in public schools.
“Disney used to be the happiest place on Earth, now it’s just the center of revival,” Mr. Scott wrote in his editorial.
