YouTube Premium Is the Latest Streaming Service to Hike Prices

Add YouTube to the list of subscription media services raising prices. The video service’s Premium subscription tiers are all getting a price hike ranging from a $1 increase for the most basic plan to a $4 increase for the most basic plan. Premium Family Packagewhich now costs $27 per month.

On its Premium home page, YouTube adapted to the new pricing on April 10, already applied to new subscribers. Some subscribers will start to see an increase in their next billing cycles; they can expect at least 30 days’ notice confirming the new prices before the change occurs.

“We’re updating the pricing of YouTube Premium plans in the US for the first time since 2023 to continue to deliver a high-quality experience that supports creators and artists on YouTube,” a spokesperson said in a statement. They said the price increase would help maintain features like ad-free viewing, background playback, and more than 300 million tracks on YouTube Music.

The lowest level, Premium Litenow costs $9 per month. This tier makes most YouTube and YouTube Kids videos ad-free and allows most YouTube videos to download. Premium, which increased by $2 to $16 per month, expands the range of ad-free videos and adds YouTube Music without advertising. Premium Family, which increased by $4 to $27 per month, can be used by up to five additional family members ages 13 and older. Annual subscriptions to these plans can reduce their prices in the long run.

All YouTube Premium tiers are available for a one-month trial.

If you choose not to pay the higher rates, you can cancel or suspend your subscription on the YouTube website.

YouTube is just the latest in a string of streaming services that have raised their prices in recent months, including Spotify And Netflix. Last year, streamers including Paramount Plus, Prime Video without ads from Amazon And Disney+ saw a price increase for subscribers.
