Believe Survivors? Swalwell Ripped for Denying Assault Claims, Then Apologizing to Wife for ‘Mistakes’ – RedState

California gubernatorial candidate Eric Swalwell (D) tried to go on the offensive Friday night, vehemently denying allegations of explosive sexual assault and misconduct by several women, including a former congresswoman who says he twice assaulted her while she was intoxicated.

These survivors’ claims are false, you see, at least according to Swalwell. And yet, during his awkward video statement, he acknowledged his “mistakes” of a personal nature, which were supposed to be resolved between him and his wife.

“A lot has been said about me today through anonymous allegations, and I thought it was important for you to see and hear me directly,” Swalwell said.

“These allegations of sexual assault are completely false,” insisted the Democratic representative (CA-14). “They are absolutely false. They did not happen. They never happened. And I will fight them with everything I have.”

Swalwell’s video was immediately accompanied by a community note emphasizing that while some of the accusers remained anonymous, “others have come forward publicly.”

The aspiring California governor then admitted his “errors in judgment” and apologized “profoundly” to his wife for putting her in this position — a statement that raises more questions than it answers.

“I’m not suggesting to you in any way that I’m perfect or that I’m a saint. I’ve certainly made errors of judgment in my past,” he said. “But these mistakes are between me and my wife, and I sincerely apologize to her for putting her in this position.”

Along with the community note, several X users hammered Swalwell with some gentle reminders of his past comments regarding sexual assault survivors and how they should be believed.

“She has nothing to gain and everything to lose. It’s time we #BelieveSurvivors instead of attacking them,” Swalwell said in 2018 about the then-level allegations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

And it came back to bite him.

“No one believes you. Live by the sword, die by the sword, they say,” radio host Dana Loesch replied.

“What if you believed women?” » added town hall columnist Kurt Schlichter.

“Swalwell apologizes to his wife and also says the allegations are ‘completely false,’ which raises (sic) the question of why he is apologizing to his wife,” noted journalist Ryan Grim.

Several women, including a congresswoman and at least three others, have filed complaints of sexual misconduct and assault against Swalwell. The allegations include unwanted sexual advances and unsolicited explicit messages, some of which reportedly include nude photos.

Two alleged assaults allegedly involved the former employee while she was intoxicated and unable to give consent. If the accuser’s description is true, these acts would meet the legal definition of rape.

Several national Democratic leaders have called on Swalwell to end his campaign for governor of California, although none have yet found the courage to demand his resignation from Congress.
