“The job is not finished” – Pivaš looks ahead to Premier League 2 finale

The young Magpies welcome their Wolves counterparts to Whitley Park on Monday evening [kick-off 7pm BST] and secured a place in the Professional Development League play-offs with one match remaining following a 3-1 away win over Manchester United on Friday.
Newcastle’s second tier have suffered just two defeats in their last nine league matches and Pivaš, who arrived at St. James’ Park from FK Jedinstvo Ub in the summer of 2024, is determined to finish the season on a positive note.

The Serbian defender, who spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Dutch club Willem II, said newcastleunited.com: “It was important to get a place in the play-offs but we have to continue in a positive way. It’s only one game and we still have a lot of work to do. The work is not finished.
“Beating a great team like Manchester United, especially in this generation when they are at the top of the table, it’s a great feeling.
“We have changed our mentality and our style of play. We are now much more aggressive and compact without the ball, which I thought we were lacking in the first part of the season. When we have the ball, we are much more dangerous in attack.”
Pivaš, who helped his country reach the semi-finals of the 2022 European Under-17 Championship, praised the team after Friday’s victory over Man United.

After taking a two-goal lead inside the first eight minutes, Newcastle’s youngsters produced a resilient defensive performance before Anthony Munda’s stoppage-time strike secured maximum points.
“It was a very important victory,” he added. “I was very happy with the way the team responded in our last league match after an international break. I hope we continue on this path.
“I thought it was our best start to a game this season. We felt so good from the start and although the start of the second half was a bit lazy, we kept going until the end.
“We could have scored more, but if you don’t score it’s important not to concede. We reacted very well after conceding and they didn’t have many chances in front of goal, so I was happy.”
Entry to Wolves’ Premier League 2 visit to Newcastle United Under-21s on Monday 13 April is free for season ticket holders, otherwise it costs £3 for adults and £1 concessions.
