Britney Spears checks into rehab after ‘wake-up call’ DUI arrest

Britney Spears checked herself into rehab after a ‘huge wake-up call’.
The singer, 44, entered a drug treatment center just a month after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
An insider has now revealed to Metro that Britney will take “as long as she needs” in treatment and has voluntarily checked herself into the facility.
A source said: “Britney’s arrest was a huge wake-up call for her.
“Her decision to finally get help was her own choice and it’s incredibly brave that she took the first steps towards a healthier future.
“She will be there as long as she needs to be and will want to leave feeling like she is in a much better space both physically and mentally.”
A rep for Spears confirmed Metro that she voluntarily checked herself into a treatment center.
The Oops!…I Did It Again singer reportedly “has no issues with any particular substance,” but instead prioritizes her mental and physical health and takes time to focus on herself.
The pop icon is due in court on May 4 after being arrested for driving under the influence.
Spears was arrested by police at Los Angeles after “driving erratically at high speed” on a highway.
On the evening of March 4, she was arrested near her home in Thousand Oaks, just outside Los Angeles, after a police officer allegedly saw her swerving from one lane to another.
Although she was not injured, police took her to the hospital to be tested to determine her blood alcohol level and whether she contained drugs.
After being arrested, she then “showed signs of impairment” and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests before being briefly taken to jail.
Shortly after, a rep for the singer said what happened was a “totally inexcusable unfortunate incident.”
“Britney will take the right steps and comply with the law and I hope this can be the first step in a long overdue change that needs to happen in Britney’s life. I hope she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time,” they said.
Referring to her sons and family, they added: “Her boys are going to spend time with her. Her loved ones will come up with a necessary plan overdue to set her up for wellness success.
She was then placed in a cell where she was described as “emotional and crying”, before being released three hours later.
If convicted, Britney would face her first drink-driving offense and be banned from driving.
