LA County Sheriff Department Explosion Devices Identified – RedState
More information arrives on the explosion in Santa Monica, California, who killed three deputies of the Sheriff of the County of Los Angeles. The deputies were identified as detectives Joshua Kelley-Eklund, Victor Lemus and William Osborn. They were experienced officers with 9, 22 and 33 years of experience, respectively.
On Saturday morning, it was revealed that the device that had caused the explosion was a military quality apparatus, perhaps a grenade or grenades. The Los Angeles Fox 11 news station has shown a video of a fuse that would have been taken from the scene.
According to the police, the fatal explosion can be linked to a complex of apartments from Santa Monica.

These seem to be the fuses M213 Pyrotechnic-Day (P-DLY) and Striker-Release (SR), used in the American Fragmentation Granada M67, among other devices. There were no illustrated grenades, but the fuses should not produce an explosion like the one that occurred here. In the photo, it seems that the fuse can be fixed to a device, but it is not clear which is the device; A small amount of olive sheet paint is visible at the bottom of the fuse, which is consistent with the finish applied to a fragmentation grenade, although it is not possible to see clearly what this device may or not.
In the history of Fox 11, the national security expert Hal Kempfer offered some information on what could have happened.

“They are probably one of the best trained, most professional and best loaded special operations organizations in the order of the country and the world,” he said. “So, for something to happen, they will look at it very closely and try to understand what exactly happened.”
Regarding the cause, Kempfer said it seems to be that the deputies transported explosive materials when the incident occurred.
“It just tells me that they were probably transporting or stored something and that something is horribly bad,” he said. “Frankly, things go wrong with demolitions. You take a lot of precautions and everything, but it is dangerous work, dangerous training, a dangerous company and sometimes accidents.”
To date, there are reports according to which the personal storage unit where the devices have been found belong to a military veteran or a retiree, but there is not yet confirmed reports.
