MS NOW Host Throws Fit Over Ukraine ‘Whistleblower’ Being Referred For Prosecution

Symone Sanders-Townsend, co-host of “The Weeknight,” accused the Trump administration of planning to “undermine” the election after reporting that the “whistleblower” who sparked the first impeachment of President Donald Trump had faced criminal charges.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released documents Monday showing that then-Intelligence Community (IC) Inspector General Michael Atkinson’s investigation into Trump’s July 2019 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “did not follow standard IG procedures.” Sanders-Townsend said Gabbard’s referral Wednesday of Atkinson and former CIA employee Eric Ciaramella to the Justice Department for possible prosecution went beyond simply trying to “clean up the past.”(RELATED: James Carville Fantasizes About Democrats Taking Trump Family Money During A Rant)

“Moments ago, MS NOW just confirmed that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard referred the whistleblower whose complaint led to President Trump’s first impeachment and the inspector general who found her complaint credible for possible criminal prosecution by the Trump Justice Department,” Sanders-Townsend said on the show. “This move comes days after Gabbard released documents alleging a conspiracy behind Trump’s first impeachment. Except people, the documents prove no such thing.”
“Also today, the Department of Justice that will review this criminal referral is the same one that just asked a federal appeals court to overturn the seditious conspiracy convictions of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers who were convicted of leading far-right extremist groups and attacking the Capitol on January 6,” Sanders-Townsend continued. “Now, Trump had already commuted the sentences of these leaders, but this decision will go even further and erase the convictions. In both cases, the administration is not only trying to clean up the past, it is setting the stage for future efforts to undermine the election, and we need to be very clear about that.”
The whistleblower’s complaint that helped spark Trump’s first impeachment in 2019 after the president allegedly threatened to withhold military aid to Ukraine unless he investigated Hunter Biden’s business dealings in the country during a phone call with Zelenskyy. Former President Joe Biden’s son was named to the board of directors of the now-defunct Ukrainian oil and gas company Burisma in 2014.
The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump on December 18, 2019, accusing him of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Gabbard voted “present” on both articles.
The Senate acquitted Trump of both articles of impeachment on February 5, 2020.
