Feds Investigating ‘8647’ Graffiti On Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool
The National Park Service is investigating vandalism of the National Mall’s reflecting pool with a phrase that many supporters of President Donald Trump consider an assassination threat.
The term “8647” was found Friday on the reflecting pool, which is currently undergoing renovation, the NPS told the Washington Examiner. U.S. Park Police began investigating the spray-painted slogan on Friday; the slogan was the subject of an indictment accusing former FBI Director James Comey of threatening Trump.(RELATED: Parrots Democratic Rep. “At approximately 7:20 a.m. this morning, United States Park Police were notified by the National Park Service of approximately 15-by-30-foot graffiti spray-painted “8647” in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool,” the NPS told the Washington Examiner.

On Friday, independent journalist Andrew Leyden published an article on X about police activity as the investigation into the vandalism began.
“Two areas of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool are covered with tarps this morning, and U.S. Park Police are on site talking to workers and apparently looking for evidence,” Leyden posted. “We don’t know what happened, but there was reportedly some graffiti on the construction site in recent days and the ‘Thank you Trump’ banners were removed.”
Trump supporters view the term “8647” as a threat to kill the president, who has survived multiple assassination attempts, including two during the 2024 presidential campaign, two attempts to send poison letters and one attempt during the 2016 campaign. A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted former FBI Director James Comey on charges of threatening to assassinate Trump over a May 2025 Instagram post that depicted seashells saying ” 8647”.
California Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu posted “8647” on Sunday, in response to a clip of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche discussing Comey’s indictment. Lieu bragged that Blanche would eventually lose her law license and that Comey would receive a massive sum of cash for “selective prosecutions.”
This phrase also appeared during numerous demonstrations organized by left-wing groups on Friday as part of May Day.
The NPS did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
