Illinois students invited to reflect on America’s history

Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie is launching an essay contest for students in his district, according to a community announcement.
The “America 250 Essay Contest” is open to students in grades 6 through 12 in the 89th District, according to the announcement.
Students are asked to choose from several questions about American history, including “Imagine the next 250 years?” and “What does it mean to you to be a part of America’s history?”
Essays must be original, between 200 and 500 words, and include a completed release form signed by a parent or guardian. Entries must be received by May 31, 2026 and can be emailed to McCombie@ilhousegop.org. The release form is available at RepMcCombie.com.
Winning essay announced in June
The winner will be announced in June and will receive special recognition from McCombie.
“America’s 250th birthday is a unique opportunity; it is a time not only for celebration but also for reflection on how far our country has come,” McCombie said. “As we get closer to the big day, I want to give students a way to get involved in our shared history. »
Anyone with questions about the contest can contact the McCombie District Office at 815-291-8989.
