Louise Lucas Issues Statement After FBI Search, and What’s Noteworthy Is What She Left Out – RedState
Although news broke Wednesday morning that the FBI was raiding the Portsmouth office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore Louise Lucas (D), the social media accounts of the normally prolific tweeter and 82-year-old social media troll/crud machine remained curiously silent.
Even throughout the day, as we learned more about what was happening, including that “other places” were also being searched, including a cannabis store she co-owns, there was no comment from the same woman who posted in March 2023, the day of Donald Trump’s indictment before the Manhattan grand jury, that “Donald Trump just learned that no one is above the law!”
It wasn’t until Wednesday evening that Lucas, the leader of Virginia’s gerrymandering project, decided to issue an official statement, and what was particularly notable was what she left out.

Unsurprisingly, she played the role of the victim, suggesting – as some of her Democratic colleagues have already done – that this was politically motivated:
Today’s actions by federal agents affect more than just one state senator; it’s about power and who is authorized to use it on behalf of the people. What we’ve seen fits a clear pattern from this administration: When challenged, they attempt to intimidate and silence the voices that stand up to them.
Just two weeks ago, Virginians sent a powerful message by voting to end Trump’s plan to manipulate the 2026 midterm elections. Voters across the Commonwealth made it clear that power belongs to the people, not the politicians who are trying to take power away from them. I was proud to help lead this effort and was never afraid to stand up to Donald Trump or anyone who tried to undermine our democracy.
I am deeply grateful for the love and support of my family and friends as well as the many colleagues and constituents who have reached out to me in recent hours. I will have more to say in the days to come, but know this:
I am not backing down and will continue to fight for the people of Portsmouth and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

I remain amused when I hear people like Lucas proclaim that their actions are on behalf of the people, despite the fact that their actions in this case could effectively disenfranchise voters in four of the state’s congressional districts if the map/referendum holds. But I digress.
The “yes, kweeen” attitude that one typically sees on screen was notably absent from the statement.

But that wasn’t all. Any statements relating to the federal investigation were also left out. There was no “I did nothing wrong,” or any other proclamation of innocence that, in all honesty, could have been left aside on the advice of his lawyer.
Notably absent from this statement: any refutation of the allegations. No declaration of innocence.

Additionally, there is no mention that the investigation began under the Biden administration, not the Trump administration:

Of course, that wasn’t included, because it would be much harder to convince people that she was a “victim” if she did.
I’m really looking forward to finding out the details of the FBI investigation, because my thought bubble on this is that the fact that it began during Biden’s reign of error is significant, given that the administration’s primary targets tended to be political opponents, not Democrats.
If they were actually targeting a prominent and powerful Democrat like Lucas, who has been in office since 1992, it makes me feel like there might be fire in that smoke.
