The refs in the OKC-LA series were so bad, the Lakers had to have a postgame meeting with them

The Oklahoma City Thunder are on a roll these days.
Fresh off a 64-win championship season in 2025, the Thunder have replicated their win total in 2026 and are currently making the playoffs in the Western Conference. They are a perfect 6-0 so far and have only won one of those games by less than 10 points.
There’s only one problem with OKC’s dominance of late: It’s been marred by bad fouls.
At least, that’s what the internet would have you believe.

Just check out any form of online discourse regarding the Thunder and, specifically, their superstar guard, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and you’ll find all sorts of memes and photoshops dedicated to the refs being on his side, as well as highlights of SGA and his Thunder teammates flopping all over the court like fish on the deck of a charter boat.
You don’t believe me? Check out some of the work being done following their Thursday night win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
This makes a lot of people take time out of their Thursday night to go out of their way to call OKC and the refs, so you know it must have been pretty bad.
Worse yet, the vitriol toward the reigning champions and their questionable dealings with officials is no longer limited to internet trolls.
It appears their opponent, the Lakers, also objected to the way these last two games were officiated and held a post-game meeting with the referees at half court.
Oh, to be a fly on one of the jersey patches in this conversation!
My favorite part is the infamous flopper LeBron James standing there nodding his head in approval at everything an angry Austin Reaves says like an approving father figure.
Come on, LeBron! Be ashamed!
Should I show the videos of you putting your thumb on your forehead and rolling around like you’ve just been shot with a high-powered sniper rifle at point-blank range?

To borrow a phrase from “The King” that has been making the rounds lately, “anyone else on this list, but not you.”

But back to the topic at hand. Something needs to be done about the officiating in this series, otherwise tensions will start to boil over, more than they already have.
I have a feeling Game 3 will be called a little more “fairly,” given the aforementioned Reaves and Lakers conversation and the fact that this game will be in Southern California, so I expect there to be some friendly hometown whistles.

Either way, it’s not a good idea for the league when one of its teams holds a conference with its officiating staff.
Thank God for the Stanley Cup Playoffs as an alternative!
