Mark Kelly’s Attempted Cleanup on Munitions ‘Blabbing’ Only Further Fuels the Debate – RedState

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) got tongues wagging Sunday when he appeared on “Face the Nation” and spoke about ammunition depletion due to Operation Epic Fury against Iran.

It was the tweet from host Margaret Brennan that made people react:

After hearing the Pentagon’s classified brief on the impact of the war in Iran on U.S. weapons stockpiles, Sen. Mark Kelly said it was “shocking how deep we’ve gone into these magazines.” He said the Tomahawks, ATACMS, SM-3, THAAD, Patriot, so these interceptor shells to defend us were hit hard. He says it will take years to replenish these stocks, which could impact a hypothetical conflict between the United States and China.

So that’s what Kelly said.

On several occasions we have been briefed by the Pentagon on specific munitions. In fact, it was quite detailed on the Tomahawks, ATACMS, SM-3, THAAD, Patriot shells, so these interceptor shells to defend us. And the numbers are, I think it’s fair to say it’s shocking how deeply we’ve delved into these magazines, because this president entered our country into this without a strategic goal, without a plan, without a timetable, and because of that we’ve spent a lot of ammunition, and that means the American people are less safe, whether it’s a conflict in the Western Pacific with China or anywhere else in the world, the ammunition is running out. You may have seen me ask the Secretary of Defense this question about how long it will take to rebuild. We are talking about years.

Brennan specifically asked Kelly if China had attacked Taiwan and if we were involved, how long our supply could last, and he actually answered that question, saying that if it took days or weeks, he thought we would be “well positioned to do it,” but if it took months, we would be in a worse situation than before Iran’s action.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth responded to Brennan’s tweet.

“Captain” Mark Kelly strikes again. Now he’s babbling on TV (falsely and stupidly) about a *CLASSIFIED* Pentagon briefing he received. Did he break his oath… again? @DeptofWar legal counsel will review.

So now here is Kelly’s response to Hegseth. He doesn’t address the issue of the briefing he talked about and that Brennan referenced, but he claims what he said was unclassified and refers to a video of him questioning Hegseth (and pontificating against Trump).

We had this conversation at a public hearing a week ago and you said it would take “years” to replenish some of these stocks. It’s not classified, it’s a quote from you. This war has a very high cost and you and the president still have not explained to the American people what its objective is.

A few points. Hegseth did not verbally identify any system. He didn’t say it could take “years.” He also said some take months and are already being replaced quickly. So what he said was different from what Kelly said.

Hegseth also noted that the war in Ukraine had led to a depletion of resources. Yet I don’t remember Democrats opposing sending money and weapons to Ukraine, which wasn’t even our fight. And again, it’s not precise, so there’s nothing problematic about it.

Furthermore, Kelly claims that President Donald Trump has not explained what the objective is, while Trump constantly repeats the main objective: to prevent the Iranian regime from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Why are Democrats so rabid about using weapons in a self-interested fight to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons, after they have threatened us and killed hundreds of Americans by proxy for 47 years? They should be in favor of the threat finally being addressed.

Also, should a senator ever answer the question of how long our munitions would last if China attacked Taiwan and we were involved? What will China think if it hears this?
