Jake Paul has admitted the broken jaw he suffered in his defeat to Anthony Joshua in December may have ended his boxing career.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer was arrested during the December fight after a brutal shot from former world champion Joshua. Paul said the injury was still under surveillance five months later.

“We’ll see what my doctors say,” Paul told Uncrowned on Monday. “Will I be able to get a more specific timeline, or can I even fight again? It’s definitely within the scope and possibilities of things.” [that I can’t]. [The jaw] I feel much better as the weeks and time go by, but I definitely need to be cleared to be able to train first.

“Most certainly [my boxing career could be over]” he added. “It just depends on how the bone heals. And then there’s also a tooth missing. I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to get a tooth implanted. I don’t know how much time that’s going to add to things, but we just have to see and figure out what’s the smartest thing for me.

Paul’s loss to Joshua was the second of his 14-fight professional career, during which he showed himself to be a competent but limited boxer. Joshua’s fight was his first against a world-class boxer, with his other fights being against fighters past their prime – like Mike Tyson, 58 – or crossover stars from other sports: his second fight was against former NBA player Nate Robinson.

Although the 29-year-old has never established himself as a force in the ring, he is a savvy businessman and has made tens of millions of dollars from his fights. He said he had no regrets about fighting Joshua, despite his injuries.

“I think it was a big win on a lot of different levels and I had a really good experience,” Paul said. “Overall, it’s so positive for me, my businesses, my fighting experience, my content, and yes, I’ll fight anyone really, to be honest. I’ve said it, and I think people believe me now, but I’m here for entertainment purposes.”
