Retired detective, corrections officer charged in NJ drug bust


A retired detective, a correctional service agent and a police distributor are part of seven people arrested last week following a massive drug investigation in New Jersey, prosecutors said on Monday.
The six -month operation, carried out by the work force of the drugs of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Internal Affairs Unit, led to the seizure of more than 4 kilograms (approximately 9 pounds) of alleged cocaine, two handguns, seven vehicles and more than $ 70,000 in cash, said prosecutor Esther Suarez. Recovered drugs have an estimated street value at more than $ 150,000.
Officials also discovered what they described as a “drug production installation”.
The seven people were arrested in the early hours of July 17 in several places in North Bergen, West New York and Union City.
Alfredo Diaz, 50, of Union City, was charged as an alleged chief of the drug network, as well as multiple other offenses.
The three and former current authorities of the application of laws arrested in the case are Ileana Hernandez, 56, a distributor in the West New York police service; Marquis Santiago, 33, a Correctional Agent of the County of Hudson; And Thomas Mannion, 60, a retirement police detective west of New York.
Hernandez faces accusations, including an official fault, of the conspiracy in order to commit an official fault and a conspiracy in order to distribute cocaine, the prosecutors said. Santiago is in charge of a conspiracy to have cocaine, while Mannion faces a conspiracy accusation to distribute cocaine.
The other three people arrested on Thursday are Edwin Martinez, 39, from North Bergen; Daniel Diaz, 28, from West New York; And Cristian Cortez, 55, of Englewood, said officials. They face accusations, in particular possession with the intention of distributing cocaine, conspiracy, money laundering and weapon offenses.
