Alabama woman post-surgery shot husband, claimed she was ‘annoyed’

A 911 call regarding a deadly shooting in Alabama quickly became a confusing case for investigators.
Authorities say an Alabama woman admitted to shooting her husband of 15 years after investigators said she felt “disturbed and annoyed” by him.

Franklin County deputies responded to a Russellville home shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday after a 911 call from 65-year-old Sheri Mitchell-Clutts.
Officers found Timothy Clutts, 69, dead in a recliner with a gunshot wound to the chest, investigators said.
Police said Mitchell-Clutts told 911 dispatchers she had felt threatened earlier in the day before the shooting. Investigators later said she changed her explanation, saying she was disturbed and annoyed by her husband’s repeated actions that day.
Mitchell-Clutts had undergone open heart surgery two weeks earlier, investigators said.
During questioning, authorities said she claimed her husband repeatedly entered her room and disturbed her throughout the day. As a result, investigators say, she retrieved a handgun hoping he might return.
Eventually, authorities say Mitchell-Clutts left the room, found her husband sitting in a recliner and shot him in the chest.
Mitchell-Clutts admitted to authorities that she shot her husband.
She was arrested Sunday and charged with murder. Jail records show she is being held without bond, awaiting a hearing before Aniah Law.
The investigation remains active as police continue to look into the shooting and the couple’s background. Authorities say six years of call recordings reveal no prior reports of domestic violence.
What is the law of Aniah?
Aniah’s Law is an Alabama law that gives judges the power to deny bail to people charged with certain violent offenses, including murder. The law, approved by voters in 2022, is named after Alabama student Aniah Blanchard, whose 2019 murder sparked calls for stricter bail rules.
