The NASA X-59 supersonic search planes finished its first low-speed taxi test at US Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, California, July 10, 2025. This marked the first time that unique experimental planes have passed through its own power.
During the test, engineers and flight teams watched the X-59 when it was moving through the track, working to validate critical systems such as management and braking. The taxi represents the start of the last series of X-59 ground tests before the first flight.
The X-59 is the centerpiece of the Quesst of NASA mission, which aims to demonstrate a silent supersonic flight by reducing the strong sound boom to a quieter “blow”.
