Chris Murphy Tries to Use AI Clip of Trump on Colbert’s Exit to Rant About Censorship, Misses the Point – RedState

Democrats continue their mourning period into Memorial Day weekend, it appears, for Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show,” which aired on CBS for over 10 years until Thursday night. I would be surprised if anyone has not heard about this, with the legacy media shouting about it since CBS announced about a year ago that his show would be ending. I’ll get right back to that in a minute.

Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) on Wednesday made sure everyone heard his take on Republican Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-04) losing his primary race to the opponent endorsed by President Trump. As my colleague Sister Toldjah wrote, Murphy spun a wild tale about it all being connected to the conspiracy theories about the administration’s failing to release the Epstein Files. Anyone who has been paying attention knows better, of course.

Many on the Left are not doing at all well after Colbert’s exit, as I said. Former CNN “journalist” Jim Acosta was one of the leftists who completely missed the point on Saturday morning, when the current king of late night, Fox News Channel’s Greg Gutfeld, joked about the “Late Show” staff photo:

RedState wrote over the past few days about the Left’s over-the-top hysterics about Colbert’s show.

But it was Murphy’s warped reaction to the White House posting an AI video of Trump – which showed him putting Colbert into a dumpster, then doing Trump’s happy rally dance – that takes the cake.

He wrote above this tweet: “We live in a country now where the president uses his power to censor media figures who criticize him and then brags about it.”

No, you completely missed the point, Chris. We see what you are attempting to do, making the ending of an ostensible comedy show, which doubled as free advertising for progressive talking points and politicians for years, into a rant about free speech. Donald Trump is the villain, every time. It would be funny if they weren’t spouting this over and over again to their base. By now, it’s possible even Murphy and his ilk believe what they are saying.

But the truth is much less controversial. CBS has made no secret about why Colbert and “The Late Show” are going away.  In July 2025, it was reported that the show was losing tens of millions of dollars for the network. The company’s news division, as we’ve written, is trying to act more like journalism recently, as well.

And I forgot about this: one of the first radical leftists in Congress to get agitated about the matter when the cancelation was announced was Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA). These people truly are like clockwork.

Editor’s Note: President Trump is leading America into the “Golden Age” as Democrats try desperately to stop it.
