Apple TV to live broadcast MLS match shot entirely on iPhone 17 Pro

Apple wants to put its smartphones to the test, with the company set to live stream a Major League Soccer (MLS) match and film it only on the iPhone 17 Pro.
Announced Thursday, Apple TV will team up with MLS to broadcast the LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo FC match on Saturday, May 23, live from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

This broadcast will be the first time that iPhones will be the only cameras used to film a major live professional sports broadcast. Apple used the iPhone 17 for parts of a live broadcast of the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers in September 2025, and has regularly used iPhones to support Friday Night Baseball and MLS broadcasts since.
Only iPhone 17s equipped with their three 48-megapixel Fusion cameras will be used to film Saturday’s match. In Mashable’s review of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, Stan Schroeder called them “the best I’ve ever tried” on a smartphone, with particular praise for that 8x optical-grade zoom. According to Apple, iPhones will be installed throughout the venue to “capture live footage throughout the game, including team warm-ups on the field, player introductions, goal angles in the net and the atmosphere inside the stadium.”
Apple’s partnership with MLS is the company’s latest move against major streaming competitors, grabbing a share of the live sports space.
The LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo FC match will be broadcast on Apple TV at 7:30 p.m. PT on May 23.
