Over 70 Israeli lawmakers vow support for Taiwan, urge global inclusion
Knesset members stressed that the declaration reflects the gratitude of Taiwan’s continuous support in Israel and recognizes the important contributions from Taiwan to world well-being.
In total, 72 members of the Knesset, coalition and opposition parties, signed a joint declaration on Thursday condemning the exclusion of Taiwan of international forums as “unjustified and irresponsible”.
The declaration was launched by MK Boaz Toporovsky (Yesh Atid), president of the Israel-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Association, with the support of MK Ohad Tal (religious skill party). Toporovsky and Tal, alongside 70 other members of the Knesset (excluding Arab parties), called for the inclusion of Taiwan in global organizations, in particular in health, transport, environmental protection and human rights.
“Taiwan is a flourishing democracy engaged in the principles of freedom, equality, human rights and the rule of law, despite a difficult geopolitical environment. We firmly oppose Covid-19 Pandemic, where it played a leading role in the search for solutions and the supply of assistance on a global scale,” said the declaration.
Knesset members also stressed that support for Taiwan’s participation in these international organizations does not influence the policy of Israel “One China”. Instead, he reflects gratitude for the continuous support of Taiwan to Israel and recognizes the important contributions of Taiwan to world well-being.

MK Ohad Tal added: “Taiwan is a true friend of Israel and does not hesitate to show it, both in words and in actions. Israel and Taiwan share many common interests, and Taiwan continues to demonstrate his support for Israel again and even more, since the start of the war. It is our opportunity to show our deep appreciation for Taiwan, to stand next to his side, and to support our prosperity.

This is an unprecedented and historical step which sends a powerful message, not only to the people of Taiwan but to all the democracies of the world: that in period of pressure from authoritarian regimes, democracies must be held together in solidarity and speak with one voice.
