Weight loss injections like Mounjaro and Wegovy are available in specialized weight loss clinics

The prescriptions of Mounjaro blows, to help people lose weight, will be available in GP surgeries in England from today – but only for those who meet very strict criteria.

The NHS England says that if the long -term plan is that the JABs are more widely available, an amazing approach is necessary to reach those who need it, manage the GPS workload and NHS resources.

Some general practitioners already warn patients who do not meet the criteria that they should not reserve an appointment to discuss the JAB at the moment.

Pharmacy trade organizations say they fear that the GPS Mounjaro demand is beyond supply.

Mounjaro, or shooting, is a weekly injection which was initially authorized to help treat type 2 diabetes, but is now also prescribed to help people with obesity to lose weight.

The drug makes you feel more full, so you eat less. In clinical trials, people who took it lost 20% of their body weight.

Who is eligible for GPS Mounjaro at the moment?

According to NHS England, the first group of patients who can get the JAB of their general practitioner or a community clinic, will be most in need.

They are people with:

  • A BMI of 40 or more (or 37.5 if from a minority ethnic background)
  • and four out of five conditions: type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and vascular disease, high cholesterol and obstructive apnee of sleep

People will also receive “enveloping” care – including the support of the exercise and according to a healthy diet, for example.

But the drug prescriptions will not necessarily be available from all local GPs. In some cases, they will come from other primary care services.

NHS England claims that people should check their ICB (ICB Care Board (ICB) ICB) website for more information. (It is the organization that is responsible for planning the health services of a local population).

Dr. Claire Fuller, co-national medical director of primary care at NHS England, says that better access to weight loss drugs will make a “significant difference for people ‘lives” living with obesity and undergoing serious health.

“This is an important step in the deployment of weight loss drugs, with community services now able to offer this treatment from today,” she said.

But some general practitioners have issued opinions on their websites saying that very few patients on their lists will immediately qualify for the drug and if someone does not meet the criteria, they should not make an appointment.

Other weight loss services such as workshops and applications are available, depending on messages.

A GP surgical intervention requested patience during the creation of community services.

Will I get Mounjaro if I meet the criteria?

It is unlikely that all patients who wish from Mounjaro and meet the criteria immediately obtain it, according to the Professional Association of Large Pharmacies, the Association CHEMISTS.

The chief executive officer, Malcolm Harrison, said that although drugs are likely to “transform the life” of millions “, it is unlikely that the planned provision of the GP is sufficient to meet the demand of patients”.

And weight loss jabs are relatively new in terms of health. Some general practitioners and other health staff need training on how to offer them safely and appropriately.

Mounjaro also requires monthly exams for patients during the first months of taking, making it a workforce for doctors.

Surgergia will also examine their ability to provide the necessary enveloping care alongside the injection.

Then there will be those who cannot take Mounjaro at the moment – for example, pregnant women, trying to become pregnant or breastfeeding.

People who have had certain conditions – such as pancreatitis or certain thyroid tumors should not take the medication either.

Individuals will have to chat with their general practitioner or their clinic to also weigh potential side effects.

Where is other Mounjaro available?

Mounjaro has been available in specialized clinics of NHS of weight loss since March.

Wegovy, also known as Sémaglutide, is another weight that works similarly. It may be prescribed for certain groups of people in the custody of specialized clinics in the weight loss management of the NHS.

The two drugs can also be purchased in private.

Dr. Claire Fuller, of NHS England, says that not everyone will be eligible for weight loss drugs.

“It is important that anyone is concerned about the impact of his weight on his health discusses the range of NHS support available with her health professional,” she said.

When can I get Mounjaro if I don’t meet the criteria now?

The provisional advice from NHS England suggests that Mounjaro will be available for some 220,000 people in the next three years.

Their current plan suggests that it can be available in phases:

  • June 2026: extended to include people with a BMI of 35 to 39.9 which have four conditions in five above
  • April 2027: also offered to people with a BMI of 40 years and over who have only three out of five conditions listed above

The healthcare dog, nice, will then take stock of how the deployment has been and will decide whether it is the right to offer it to more people with obesity.

About 3.4 million people are likely to be eligible for the next 12 years, suggest estimates.

And the rest of the United Kingdom?

Mounjaro is available through specialized weight management services in the NHS in Wales. The Welsh government is considering other provisions, in particular involving primary care in the future.

In Northern Ireland, a new regional obesity management service will be gradually introduced in the coming years, with community service where patients will have access to life support and obesity medication, if applicable.
