Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton embracing potential OF return with Aaron Judge injured

With judge Aaron only expected DH when he returns for the first time from a right flexor tension, Giancarlo Stanton will dust his glove.
Stanton has not played Defense since 2023, but he will get some work in the outside field with the judge hitting the IL on Sunday. The Hope of the Yankees is that the judge will only be left for 10 days before being able to reintegrate his bat in the programming, but he will be prevented from launching 10 to 14 days, because the stumps of flexor can be a precursor to injuries to the ulnar collateral ligament if they are not treated correctly. From there, the judge will increase his program to launch before returning to the outside field.
In the meantime, Stanton’s work is to eliminate any defensive rust that he has so that he can make a viable external field option once the judge left the IL. After talking to Aaron Boone, Stanton said he was ready for everything that helps Yankees win.
“I think it will be for me to be in the outside field,” continued the hitter on Saturday. “I’m going to work there the coming week and be ready if necessary.”
Stanton, 35, mainly played the ground on the right for the Marlins from 2010 to 2017, but he spent the vast majority of his Yankees career as DH due to a series of lower body injuries which forced the former MVP to be too cautious.
Now Stanton also has persistent tennis elbow injuries that require coherent maintenance. However, Boone is not worried about defensive work aggravating Stanton’s elbows.
“If there are things that happen, we will adapt,” said the director. “But I don’t expect that.”
If Stanton returns to the outside field in a match, it would probably be in the Yankee stadium, because it is the least spacious place in the Bronx.
He said he had failed to play the defense and that it will be “good to be back”. He added that he had done defensive exercises and launched during his elbow rehabilitation.
“It would not be like I had never been there before,” said Stanton.
On Saturday, the judge said he wanted to avoid it and start immediately. However, Boone said the judge “understands that [going on the IL] is the best thing for him and for us right now.
Boone was asked if the judge could DH at the moment without getting injured more, and if he is not because Stanton is not yet ready for the field.
“So there is the feeling that if it was right now that he would probably not compromise his UCL,” said Boone. “Obviously, throwing would do it. That said, there is a sensor [the bat] Component to it and it is probably not – obviously not as the defensive side – affect it somewhat offensively too. And then there is also the component G. So I think that when you add everything, it is the most judicious to give this time to calm down a little, we hope to heal, and we hope to put ourselves in the long term to a better position. “”
In a follow -up, Boone was asked if the Yankees would be better with the judge’s bat, considering that the team in difficulty is six games from Blue Jays in the American League East.
“”[Swinging] would not hurt, but I would say [Judge is] A little marginally compromised, “replied Boone.” So what is it about? Does this lead to a decrease in performance? Does it lead to a bad habit, something like that? It is therefore part of the equation too. »»
