Cooper In – TPM – Talking Points Memo

I think it was about in the cards. But now it’s official. Former Governor Roy Cooper (d) is entering the Northern Carolina Senate race, which is now an open race after senator Tom Tillis (R) announced his forced retirement (Trump). Nothing is certain for the Democrats in North Carolina. But this is the best scenario that they could have hoped for – no holder, one of the most popular most popular democrats in state race. (I heard that the new governor, Josh Stein, could be a little more popular now.) Of course, it is an absolute essential for DEMS to be in the running to seize the Senate. So they set the bases at least if the winds move just next November.
