Caitlin Clark Stalker Sentenced to 2.5 Years in Prison
Michael Lewis, the man accused of harassing the star of the WNBA Caitlin Clark, was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison on Monday.
Lewis, 55, was arrested in Indianapolis earlier this year after sending several threats and sexually explicit messages to Caitlin Clark via the X social media platform. He shouted “guilty as charged” after pleading non-guilty of the charges in January.
“Lewis sent these messages to Clark before the FBI received information from his account and presented himself in his hotel room in Indianapolis. Lewis is from Texas, but had gone to Indiana in the middle of his scary messages,” noted the New York Post.
“Lewis was sentenced immediately in January and was invited to stop contacting Clark and staying away from all games, events or properties of fever or pacers. He was also required to stay away from Hinkle Fieldhouse, where Clark’s boyfriend Connor McCaffery, university coaches,” he added.
Lewis would have become erratic at his hearing on Monday, according to WTHR Indianapolis, and the judge often had to correct his behavior.
“I just want her to be safe,” said Lewis about his actions, adding that he had tracked down the basketball star for his well-being.
“I never threatened her, I never thought of threatening her,” said Lewis.
“He will withdraw from a plea,” said the judge. “You must understand that as part of a advocacy agreement, you admit responsibility.”
After having avoided the admission of responsibility for several minutes, Lewis finally responded “yes” to the charges brought against him as part of his advocacy agreement.
Lewis received 2.5 years in prison with credit for the time already purged.
