Jahan Dotson making most of second chance with Eagles, growing up and embracing new role in loaded WR room

Philadelphia – Jahan Dotson was playing to catch up all last season. It was not something that the old first round choice wished him, nor wanted his third year playing in the NFL.

The reality struck Dotson once he failed Washington. He was no longer the focal point of the offense, unlike his role in Penn State and in his first two seasons of the NFL. The figures did not appear in the box score or targets on the ground.

For any wide receiver, it is a hard pill to swallow.

“You know, younger me would not have managed this very well,” said Dotson about his lack of targets during his first season with the Eagles. “Being a receiver, obviously, everyone wants the ball. It is only part of who we are.”

Dotson knew he was not going to be the high volume goal he was in Washington. Not in an offense that had already AJ Brown and Devonta Smith as the two main wide receivers. Philadelphia’s third broad receiver barely obtains targets such as, so that Eagles were not a franchise that Dotson could use production as a means of recovering his career.

A whirlwind of a season

The fact of being exchanged in Philadelphia was the awakening that Dotson needed after having fought in Washington. The reversal

Dotson accepted that the targets were not going to arrive very early, having only one match with more than three targets before the final of the season in the week 18 (when the Eagles rested all their starters). Dotson had only three caught in the playoffs, but two of them triggered the Eagles to the victories. Complete off -season in Philadelphia

Unlike last year, Dotson was able to spend all the Minicamp and the training camp with the Eagles. He had the opportunity to build his chemistry with Hurts, descend to Houston and work with the Eagles quarter to the connection is even stronger.

“So it’s me. I had ota, a training camp this year, so I have no excuse. I will get there whenever my opportunity is called.”

Hurts has also experienced growth.

“You see improvements, but it’s more for him to come and find this feeling of comfort from where he is with this group,” said Hurts. “He came here last year very late, was a late addition, so he never was able to build this chemistry.

“I think that now he has an understanding of what he wants to do and the way he wants to do it. It’s just a question of comfort in this team and build his role and involve it.”

The Eagles did not picked up the fifth year of Dotson to be an old first round choice, which he expected. Nothing is guaranteed in the mind of Dotson, which makes him even stronger while he seeks to make the most of the second chance that the Eagles gave him.

“I thought I had grown mentally as a player last year,” said Dotson. “I feel like it will really help me this year.”
