This three-game stretch could define Oklahoma's season
The Oklahoma Sooners started the fall camp in preparation for the 2025 season. With only four weeks before kick -off, the Sooners will soon launch themselves into one of the most difficult times of all university football.
Or enter the 2nd year in the southeast conference and the 4th year under the brent-venable head coach, needing to bounce after a gross duration of things in 2024. The Sooners went 6-7 in total and 2-6 in the dry, leading to a hot seat for venables and many changes this offseason at the front-office, to coach staff and alignment.
In 2025, Oklahoma will face a brutally difficult calendar, but they hope that they will manage their new conference better than last season. There is a section of three games which, in particular, will help tell the story of this year for the Sooners.
Chris Low, who covers university football for ESPN, has broken down certain calendar superlatives for a certain number of teams across the country before the 2025 season. Low estimates that or will face the three most difficult section of the country, and this will come during the month of October.
The criteria in this category are three games in three consecutive weeks without Byes. Brent Venables and the Sooners will have the chance to take a certain momentum, but they are faced with an October version that could break any team. He begins with Texas No. 3 in Dallas on October 11, followed by a match on the road at No. 13 in South Carolina on October 18, then a home match against No. 24 Ole Miss on October 25. If you want to stretch him in four games, things don’t get much improved for the Sooners. They take the road next week to play Tennessee on November 1 at Neyland Stadium. Three of these four games are far from their home. – Bas, espn.
To face the Longhorns in Dallas is always a revealing game for the two teams, but the task of facing the Gamecocks in Columbia, the rebels at home in Norman, then a trip to Knoxville to play volunteers is extremely intimidating. The Sooners will not have much margin for the error, the rest of the year if they vacillate during this section of games.
Low has also identified the Oklahoma’s home game for Michigan’s week 2 as one of the best games without a conference of all season, and was enthusiastic about the feedback from two former Sooners in Norman as an adversaries. Auburn Jackson Arnold’s quarterrier will return on September 20, while the LSU wide receiver Nic Anderson, and the tight winger Bauer Sharp will face the Sooners on November 29.
By way of comparison, Low also stressed that Texas is confronted with the simplest domestic slate with all the power four. The Longhorns welcome Texas A&M at the end of the season, but the rest of their home schedule is a cake. The Texas dry schedule is much easier than that of most other conference teams, and not even comparable to what some of the other League programs have to face; Oklahoma chef among them.
However, Low believes that the Gators of Florida, not Oklahoma, have the most difficult calendar of the Power Four, followed closely by the Wisconsin badgers in second position.
