US funding freeze threatens biomedical research | Science

Federal funding is crucial to producing scientific, technological and clinical breakthroughs, allowing universities to cover wages, buy reagents and equipment and register patients in clinical trials. However, in April, funding gels were promulgated that affects Harvard University, Columbia University, Princeton University, Brown University, Pennsylvania University and Northwestern University (1). In Northwestern, nearly $ 800 million have been frozen, without official notification, updates or appeal (2, 3). University professors and leadership must express themselves to raise public awareness of the public and colleagues in the financing and to highlight the disastrous effects of this research policy, patients and public health (4).
