Guardians’ Nic Enright, battling lymphoma, earns first save

New York – The first career with the exception of Nic Enright was particularly significant.
Enright, which was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma at the end of 2022 and should finish its treatments later this year, granted an unprecedented race in the 10th round on Monday evening to close the 7-6 victory of the Cleveland Guardians on the New York Mets.
“He was almost crying on the field right now,” said Stephen Vogt, director of the goalkeepers. “If you read his story, it’s quite inspiring.”
Cleveland has selected Enright in the 20th round of the 2019 amateur project by Virginia Tech. He received his diagnosis on December 22, 2022 – 15 days after the Miami Marlins took him to the rule 5 project.
After four immunotherapy cycles at the beginning of 2023, Enright made nine appearances in rehabilitation in the minor league for the Marlins before being appointed for assignment and return to the Guardians at the end of May.
He missed most of last season due to a tension on the right shoulder, but went 2-1 with an MPM of 1.06 in 16 appearances with Triple-A Columbus.
The right -hander has another cancer treatment cycle scheduled for November.
“I made the decision when I was diagnosed in 2022 with Hodgkin lymphoma that I was not going to let this define my life and dictate how I was going to make my life,” said Enright. “This is something where, for anyone going through something similar, [it shows] I did not just put myself in my house and I felt sorry for myself. “”
Enright made his debut in the major league on May 25, and he has a 2.01 MPM in 19 appearances for the Guardians, whose lift enclosure is foaming with All-Star Emmanuel Clase on paid leave as part of a sports gaming investigation.
Hunter Gaddis and Cade Smith launched the eighth and ninth rounds on Monday before Hartht entered with a two -point lead. He abandoned a simple RBI two shots in Brett Baty before removing Luis Torrens during a flight to the warning track on the right.
“I definitively retained my breath when I saw Nolan [Jones] A little continue to run, “said Enright.” But I had faith. While he was somehow approached the wall, I realized that he was losing steam. “”
Enright was doubled by beer by teammates in the locker room.
“I was so happy. Oh, I became crazy here,” said launcher leaving Guardians Slade Cecconi with a smile. “I was absolutely furious. He came running on the stairs, smiling on his face.”
Enright thanked his wife, his parents and the rest of his family for their support throughout an interview with his locker. He obtained the ball of the final and plans to put aside his uniform and his hat as well as an alignment card.
“Really, really cool,” said Enright. “For the past two years, above all, I have gone through a lot of adversity and everything that happened. And so for me, it is to be able to think about those of these moments. I think it helps to slow down the game. Because it was not exactly a deployment of red carpet for my career trajectory.”
