‘Wednesday’ Season 2 hides ‘Addams Family’ movie references for keen-eyed fans

It’s not really a surprise that Tim Burton Wednesday takes frightening aesthetic clues of The Addams family – Charles Addams’ New York The cartoons, the sitcom of the 60s and the films of the 90s – but it is a pleasure to see deeply specific references hidden in the second season in 1991 The Addams family.
A monochrome lighthouse of the comedy in the early 90s, Barry Sonnenfeld The Addams family and its superb sequel The values of the Addams family were repeated in our house. Just say that I watched the film on VHS enough times to locate a niche reference when I see it.
Wednesday Season 2 includes a handful of references to the film through the design of production, the flashing and yourself scenes and a gloriously chaotic casting choice. Here is what I could spot:
Wednesday’s octopus bed

Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday has the same bed as Wednesday of Christina Ricci and I love it.

In The Addams familyWednesday (Christina Ricci, who plays the science teacher Marilyn Thornhill Wednesday) is obsessed with the Bermuda triangle. She studies it. By extending this marine mystery mania to the decoration of its room, the Wednesday bed is adorned with a large octopus. In Wednesday Season 2, episode 1, when our stormy protagonist (Jenna Ortega) is about to leave to Nevermore Academy from the Addams Manor, you can see that her bed also has a octopus. Reader, I need this bed.
Pugsley traffic shell

In Wednesday Season 2, Episode 1, Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) is the victim of intimidation Wednesday by his sister to use his power powers to zap a stop panel on the path of Nevermore Academy. This causes a major stack. For me, it may be a reference to the pounded stop panels by Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) in The Addams familywhich causes a traffic accident that we hear but do not see on the screen.

Thing lends a helping hand – like a golf t -shirt

Something: always practical.

If you don’t remember the emblematic Raul Julia as Gomez Addams, consider this your homework. In The Addams familyWhenever Gomez de Julia needs a little R&R, he strikes the golf balls of his roof in the windows of his neighbor. The thing, always courteous, acts like a t-shirt in these scenes. In Wednesday Season 2, we see something reconstituted at this moment in episode 2, during a montage of treated things like a servant of Morticia and Gomez (Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán). This time, Gomez strikes the thing instead of the golf ball, sending the poor flying guy to a tree.
The dance of Morticia and Gomez

The perpetually vigorous heads of the Addams family love a tango, with Morticia (the emblematic Anjelica Huston) and Gomez literally putting the ground on the ground in the ground The values of the Addams family. In Wednesday Season 2, episode 3, Zeta-Jones and Guzmán cut their own carpet, with a choreography that pays homage to their predecessors.
The episode of the camp

Wednesday Season 2, episode 3, sees the students of Nevermore going to Camp Jericho alias Camp Outcast in what seems to be a wink The values of the Addams family. In the film immediately, Wednesday and Pugsley are shipped to the Chippewa camp, pure torture for them both (and not the right genre). But in WednesdayThe camp is do For the Parias, with dagger launcher, a black watchtow tower and ses in the shape of a coffin.
Honorable mention: It’s Christopher Lloyd!

Looking Addams Icon and film Wednesday Christina Ricci joins the cast for Wednesday was a pleasure for The Addams family fans. In season 2, we get another Addams Casting Treat: The Great Christopher Lloyd, whose melodramatic performance as a Fester in the films of the 90s is of all time. Lloyd plays a Futurama-Style Floating Head in a pot, the science teacher of Nevermore no longer, Dr. Orloff, who meets on Wednesday in episode 2.. The poor Orloff is the perpetual target of student pranks in Nevermore – have a certain respect!
