Home Assistant 2025.8 Is Out: Here’s What’s New

The home assistant deploys another exciting update. The new 2025.8 version has improvements to group management, AI automation and other useful changes.
First of all, you are no longer stuck to simply control an entire group both of devices at the same time. You can now make small adjustments to a single member without having to hunt their individual entity. This is a huge time saving, especially for large groups that need several fixes.
The time trigger for automation now includes the possibility of specifying weekdays. It’s great if you have automation that you only want to run at a specific time on weekends or during the week. In addition, a long -awaited feature is the new visualization of the energy flow for the energy dashboard. It is a Sankey table that shows you exactly where your energy comes from and where it is going. It’s a really useful way to see how your home uses power.
In addition to that, this version was nicknamed “The Summer of IA”. The application throws a base for many new AI features. This includes things like AI tasks, which essentially allow you to delegate tasks at AI and recover a structured result. It is a huge step forward for anyone who wants to integrate AI into its intelligent home workflow. There is also a new integration, OpenRouter, which gives you access to more than 400 additional language models.
You can do something like attaching files or a camera flow, and ask AI to analyze what he sees. A perfect example of this is the user who configures a model entity that updates every five minutes. The task of AI is to analyze the flow of the camera of a chicken coop and count the number of birds inside. The AI returns that counts as a number, and you can then use this number in your automation or as a single sensor.
Although Home Assistant has already introduced new installation methods and integration subjections, the company was built on the latter with AI tasks and buttons “suggest with AI”. The “Suggest with AI” button is a new feature that will appear in places such as the Save dialog box for automation and scripts. When you activate AI’s suggestions in your settings, this button can help you find a name, description, category and label for your automation.
Finally, if you use a home assistant voice to talk to an AI, you won’t have to wait a while for an answer. The system can now start to generate the audio response before AI has finished generating the whole answer. This is particularly ideal for users with local AI, which can sometimes be a little slow, or when you have long announcements by playing on your speakers.
Fortunately, the home assistant seems to understand that not everyone wants AI to them. Thus, these new features will only appear if you have specifically configured an integration of AI. The update is available now for home assistant servers, and you can consult the official website for instructions on new facilities.
